| At
the age of 19 Tim was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Doctors
informed him that he was in Stage 4 of the disease and gave him only
days to live. Although doctors said there was nothing that could be
done, Tim and his family refused to believe this and he was started on
Chemotherapy treatments.
While going through
Chemotherapy, Tim was watching a Crusty Demon's of Dirt video. Amazed
at seeing the stunts being performed on dirt bikes, it was at this
point he decided he wanted to become a Freestyle Moto-X
rider.
Although he had been riding dirt bikes since he was six-years-old, this
would be whole new world for him. It would be nothing compared to the
near death experience he had just encountered. After a year and a half
of treatment and recovery Tim had beaten the odds and was on a bike
immediately pulling off stunts. Freestyle Moto-X came naturally to him. Over
the years, Tim perfected his stunts including what is considered the "holy grail" of tricks - the back flip.
At the age of 24 he was signed on
by an FMX promoter and rode with them for 6 years. Being in the
industry, Tim grew tired of the "politics" that come with such a small
market. In 2007, Tim resigned from the promoter and started his own
team that is now known as Tim Dyson FMX.
Tim's philosophy on shows, business, the industry and life come from
the "Golden Rule" - treat others as you want to be treated.
"It's
the fans, promoters and the events that are going to keep you alive in
this business. If you don't treat people with respect, it will all be
over in the blink of an eye."
Tim instills this in his other
riders and applies it to his company and daily life. For this, he has
gained great success. Since starting the team, Tim has participated in
hundreds of FMX events across the world, from bike rallies and county
fairs to demolition derbies and Monster Truck shows. He has worked with
some of the best in the industry, including Kenny "The Cowboy" Bartram
and Travis Pastrana.
With the help of sponsors, his riders, and
his Manager, Tim hopes to have continued success as a Freestyle
Moto-X rider and business owner for years to come.
